Qingdao University is a key provincial research university located in Qingdao, Shandong, China which is well connected through Qingdao Liuting International Airport.

Qingdao University traces its origin to 1909, when Deutsch-Chinesische Hochschule (German-Chinese College), the oldest predecessor institution of Qingdao University, was jointly established by the Chinese and German governments. At present, QDU is one of the best comprehensive universities in Shandong Province, With a strong profile in Medical Sciences. The institute, unique in medical education, underwent various stages as Qingdao Medical School, Qingdao Medical University, and Qingdao Medical Specialized School. Qingdao University implements the strategy of “building up the university on the basis of talent cultivation, and invigorating it through learning and with talents”, with the obligation to “impart profound academic knowledge and cultivate talents with a great leaning to meet the needs of our nation”.

Qingdao University is divided into 35 colleges, schools and 25 faculties, including the medical department.

Courses are offered in 11 main Academic disciplines including Medicine.

International Education and Cooperation

Qingdao University persists in implementing the strategy of promoting international exchanges and cooperation in all respects. It has established relations with 176 universities in over 20 countries and regions, including the USA, UK, Germany, France, Austria, Japan, Korea, Russia, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Uruguay, etc. It has also developed over 60 education programs at various levels including teacher and student exchanges, joint training, and Chinese-foreign cooperatively-run education. Forty universities from among these countries have signed bi-lateral exchange agreements with Qingdao University. Each year, the university employs more than 50 qualified native foreign language teachers with long-term work contracts and over 100 visiting professors on a short-term basis.  Meanwhile, each year about 100 Chinese teachers and students from Qingdao University study in these “sister universities” throughout the world


Qingdao University College of Medical Science is recognized by the World Health Organization and is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools. Qingdao University is also authorized by the Ministry of Education of China to be one of the institutions of higher learning to offer courses in English for majors of Clinical Medicine.


The beautiful campus of Qingdao University occupies an area of over 2,768 mu (about 180 hectares) and a floor area of 1,090,000 square meters. and includes three campuses in different parts of Qingdao, with the main campus located in the east part of Shinan District. Over 100 research labs, teaching and research facilities are well-equipped. The International Program Building has become a multifunctional compound incorporating teaching, learning, and living facilities including classrooms, accommodations, canteen, teaching room, Internet room, and a gymnasium. All lecture rooms are well equipped with advanced audio-video facilities. The university has advanced teaching facilities and an effective campus network. The school has a pleasant study environment and excellent accommodation and facilities.


The University library has a collection of 1,430,000 volumes, and with the space of 25600 square meters. The students can access the library free until they complete the whole course. The University publishes several academic periodicals, entitled Journal of Fujian Medical University (Medical Science Edition), Journal of Fujian Medical University (Social Science Edition), Chinese Journal of Hypertension, and Chinese Journal of Cardiovascular Rehabilitation.


The university library houses a collection of over 3,550,000 volumes. Its library, the largest in terms of floor area in Shandong Province.

Students and Faculty

Qingdao University first started to accept the Clinical Medicine (MBBS) program international student in 2006.   It is one of 45 universities qualified by the State Education Commission to accept Clinical Medicine (MBBS), international students, using English as a medium of instruction. It has about 37.000 students, from which over 5.000 are postgraduate students, and over 1.000 are international students. Since 1980, Qingdao University has received over 10.000 students from more than 60 countries out of which most of them come from India. The university also has a group of reputed scholars known at home and abroad, of which 900 are professors.

Affiliated Hospitals

This simulation hospital has the capacity to hold 300 students simultaneously to do clinical internship and assessment, to meet the need of students from different countries to have complete training from individual’s basic skill to medical teamwork, so that they can get the best exposure to clinical practice as early as possible, and get familiarized with medical behaviour and procedures, therefore their overall quality and practical capability can be improved. Its establishment filled the domestic gaps of basic facilities for the clinical practice of international students in China and effectively eases the students’ pressure to integrate into local hospitals for doing an internship. Hence, this acts as a bridge between basic medical knowledge and clinical operational skills.

Seven hospitals are affiliated with the university: The Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University, The Affiliated Cardiovascular Hospital of Qingdao University, Qingdao Centre Medical Group, Qingdao Municipal Hospital, Yantai Yuhuangding Hospital, Qingdao Haici Medical Group, Weihai Municipal Hospital.

Internship and Career

In order to provide students with an all-round simulation clinical environment of the hospital, the International Medical School introduced internationally advanced medical teaching equipment, and set up realistic simulation hospital, which completely simulates regular hospitals, and occupies 1780 square meters. It includes multi-function classrooms covering internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, ICU, operation room, emergency outpatient department and ward checking etc, extensively involving training on asepsis, puncture, drainage, intubation, defibrillation and multi-case simulation, etc, which can provide students with all-dimensional and all English modernized simulation environment.


As far as Qingdao Climate is concerned, all four seasons are mild without extreme cold or hot temperatures. The hottest season is in August with the average temperature of 25.1C (77.2F) and the coldest in January with the average temperature of 0.9C below zero (30.4F).
