About Bukovinian State Medical University

Bukovinian State Medical University (abbreviated as BSMU or БДМУ) is one of the largest higher educational establishment in Chernivtsi. It is a modern multiprofile educational institution of the IV accreditation level, included into the general register of the WHOMagna Charta Universitatum (Bologna, Italy), the Association of the Carpathian Region Universities that provides qualified training according to the grade system of education. The university includes a medical lyceum, Chernivtsi, Vashkivtsi, Novoselytsia and Kovel’ (Volyn’) Medical Colleges, 4 medical faculties, stomatological and pharmaceutical faculties, the department of post-graduate education, preparatory department for foreign students.

Post-graduate education of doctors is realized at the Internship and Mastership, and the Doctoring Departments, in Clinical Residency, at the post-residence courses, as well as via pre-attestation course, the course of improvement of medical knowledge, specialization and professional courses.

The material-technical base of the University is located in 15 buildings, and 33 municipal and regional medical establishments are used for Clinical Departments.
Lecture halls, classrooms, educational-practical pharmacy and laboratories are equipped with modern technical aids to ensure educational process and scientific work, and linked up with Internet.


The University Library funds number about a million of volumes of educational, scientific, medical literature and fiction.


The University’s hostels provide adequate living conditions, proper conditions for self-studying and organization of leisure activities to all students living there. All rooms are furnished and equipped with other necessary stuff (bed linen, blankets, pillows etc.).

All hostels have rooms for self-studying furnished with desks and chairs. In addition hostels include quarters of residential use, such as laundry, canteen, gym, billiard room and library. For example, at the Hostel No 5 a lending library is opened, and there is a reading hall, containing 6 480 manuals of the scientific and methodical literature in English. It should be also noted that in the canteen of the Hostel No 5 the dishes are cooked according to the food preferences of foreign students. Moreover, the canteen is used for celebrating different religious and national holidays of the countries which the students come from.

Practical training. The University students go through their practical training at medical-preventive establishments and pharmacies (practical bases) in Chernivtsi, Khmelnitsky regions, or at their places of residence.
