About Bangladesh Medical College

In Bangladesh, a medical school is known as a medical college. Allopathic and Alternative Medicine related medical education at the graduate level is provided by medical colleges. The colleges are under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), and are affiliated with a university on the respective region. They however have to be recognized after meeting a set criterion by a central regulatory authority called Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BM&DC). 1986, all the medical colleges were established by the government. Since then, several private medical colleges have been set up. There are total 90 recognized medical colleges in Bangladesh, 36 of which are public and 54 private. Apart from these, there are six medical colleges which are run by the Bangladesh Armed Forces and are under the Ministry of Defence.

All the medical colleges award the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). The Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Master of Surgery (MS) is awarded as a postgraduate research degree in selected medical colleges and universities, following the medical tradition of Commonwealth countries. As per the declaration of overseas registration of the General Medical Council, the awarded MBBS degree from some of the institutions is eligible to apply for registration in United Kingdom.

Facilities in Ad-Din Women's Medical College

Bangladesh Medical College has 5 large fully air-conditioned classrooms with closed-circuit televisions for lectures. In addition to this, there are departmental tutorial rooms attached to the respective departments. The Anatomy Dissection Hall is fully air-conditioned. The laboratories of various departments like Pathology, Biochemistry, etc are well equipped with instruments.

Each classroom is also provided with an overhead projector, slide projector and microphone system. In addition, multimedia projectors and computers are also available for teaching.


Bangladesh Medical College has a modern and fully air-conditioned library located on the first floor of its campus building. The library has a collection of over 6,674 books including expensive latest monographs. It subscribes 16 international medical journals on an annual basis. The library has accommodation for seating 100 students and 15 teachers at any given time. The Medical Education Unit (MEU) is attached to the library. MEU has 5 computers for use by students and faculty members. Fax, Internet and E-mail facilities are freely available and are widely used. MEDLINE database (1966 to current) is available on CD Roms and online through the Internet. Teaching materials are also available on CD Rom and videocassettes.


Bangladesh Medical College facilities for students also have a hostel area. These include separate hostels for girls and boys with an adequate number of beds in the hostel, mess facilities and canteen with hygienic food.

Other facilities

It having also a sports complex, playground cultural activity centre is incorporated and much more for the dessemination of world class educational services and ensure hollistic development of students thereby raising it to the standards of an International hostel.
It boasts of nearby facilities for students like a ATMs, Railway station, Bus stand and Airport. These make it feasible for the students to commute to and from the college area.
