Jalal-Abad State University. The primary campus of the University is located in the town of Jalal-Abad, the oblast’s cultural and administrative center, and a modern town of 70,000. The main campus contains three of the University’s five faculties, and 18 departments. The other faculties are in the towns of Kara-Kul and Tash- Kumyr. In addition, there are two colleges, in Mayluu-Suu and Kochkor-Ata. More than 4,300 students and 250 faculty members study and work together atJalal-AbadStateUniversity.

Compared with the study of medicine at most Eurasian universities, studies at the JaSU Faculty of Medicine is more widely integrated into clinical practice than the others. Students gain a foundation in the profession at university clinical hospitals: at the Jalalabat provincial headquarters hospital, Jalalabat city hospital and other hospitals associated with the faculty of medicine.. They are the main treatment and medical science institutions in Jalalabat province. 23 JaSU Faculty of Medicine departments not only coordinate student teaching in all clinical and theoretical medical disciplines, but also the cooperation between other countries’ universities and scientific institutes and have become scientific schools and research centres, ensuring the professional quality of JaSU teaching staff.
Commencing from their third academic year of study, Faculty of Medicine students have the opportunity to gain a deeper knowledge of paediatrics. Placement in patient clinical care, internal diseases, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology are also included in the teaching process where theoretical knowledge will be supplemented by practical skills.

Jalal-Abad State University’s medical libraries and reading rooms currently house 58,000 volumes, 22,000 of them at the main campus. There is also access in Jalal-Abad to 12,000 books at theAcademyofScience, 10,000 at the Biosphere Institute, and 18,000 at the Jalal-Abad city library.
These have included travelers, traders, tourists and pilgrims (to the various holy sights) and sick people visiting the curative spas such as in the Ayub Tau mountain, at the altitude of 700 m above sea level some three kilometers out of town.
Jalalabad is famous for its spas. There is a legend that the water from the Hozret-Ayub-Paigambar spa cured lepers. According to the legend there was a grave, a mosque and the khan’s palace near the spa. The Jalalabad sanatoria, “Kurort”, is based on one of the spas on one of the hils overlooking the town – the waters are salty, but people from a wide area to collect bottles of it.
Near the entrance to the Kurort (the health resort) is a cafe with a fine view over the town – the “Ikram-Ajy” Panorama, at a height of 1000 meters , with a complex that consists of a “national crafts hall”, souvenir shop and an entertainment hall –from here you can appreciate how green the city is, as the trees rise above the low-rise building. The spas are also the source for several different brands of mineral water.
